Raja Muneeb of The New Indian speaks with renowned Pakistani journalist Arif Jamal, who is currently based in the USA, about his book, Shadow War: The Untold Story of Jihad in Kashmir.
Shadow War by Arif Jamal is a groundbreaking account of the Kashmiri insurgency launched by Pakistan. The book delves into a gain of explosive topics, including Jinnah’s ideology, the Pakistani army’s Kashmir policy, Bhutto’s Kashmir operation, and the Kargil War. The author also examines Pakistan’s dubious actions in PoK, the people’s resistance in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the colonial mentality of the Pakistani army towards Afghanistan. Additionally, the book predicts that Pakistan’s next jihad will occur within its borders due to economic failure and the ascension of Jihadis who have back up from the Taliban in Afghanistan. One particularly noteworthy incident discussed in the book is the hijacking of Indian Airlines aircraft ‘Ganga’ in 1971 by Kashmiri separatists, which Zulfikar Bhutto used for political gain.
