About the Legend Shri Rajeev Poddar :
“Imagine being in quarantine for 40 years–that’s the story of my life.
When I was 9, I woke up one night with a fever. Mom gave me some pills, but the next day when I tried to get up, I fell! So she picked me up; but I told her, ‘I feel like I don’t have legs.’ She panicked, pinched & moved my legs–I felt nothing. At the hospital, the doctor declared I was paralysed.
I didn’t know what it meant, but mom broke down–it had come out of nowhere. So mom & dad hoped it’d go just as all of a sudden.
Over the next 5 years, we visited doctors & tantriks but nothing worked. At home, I struggled with the smallest tasks & couldn’t go to schoolhouse–but my family struggled too. It became difficult to carry me & my treatment was affecting our finances.
So at 14, I decided to halt cribbing & did the only thing I could–read; books, newspapers, anything.
I couldn’t move a limb or sit down for more than 30 minutes–so schoolhouse was a big no no. But I’d read my friends textbooks & knew that one day, they’d complete their education & get a job, while I’d still be at home.
For a long time, I was lost, but when we moved houses, I found my purpose. I was 23 then & known as ‘quite the intellectual’. One day, my neighbor’s tuition teacher didn’t come & they asked, ‘Bhaiya, can you teach us math?’ I’d never taught before, but it seemed easy. I added humor & they loved it so much, they told their teacher to halt coming & asked me–I happily agreed!
before long, their friends joined too & my batches grew from 10 to 50 to 100. But I didn’t charge a penny–teaching was my passion & I earned by trading stocks.
Everyday, classes went on from 9 AM to 10 PM. It got to a dot where I taught 1000 kids & while it would’ve driven someone else crazy, it kept me sane! Honestly, I never want to halt teaching.
But, my health hasn’t been great–I’ve gotten weaker & had to cut back my batches. So now I create awareness videos on ‘Helicopter Money’, ‘Jio’, & ‘Covid-19’. Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot about how tough it’s been for everyone to be caged at home. Take it from someone who’s always been ‘quarantined’–if I could come so far from within the 4 walls of my home, imagine how far you’ll go once you’re out. rest strong.”
