Two women in Iran arrested after being assaulted for not wearing headscarf in a grocery store
WATCH: A man assaulted a mother and her daughter in a grocery store by throwing yoghurt on them for not wearing headscarves in the northeastern city of Mashhad Iran.
Ebrahim Raisi, Iran’s president responded to the viral clip saying that the hijab is “a legal matter”.
Growing numbers of women have discarded their veils in protestation, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in law custody for violating hijab rules, leading to nationwide protests and a violent crackdown from security forces.
Authorities issued warrants for the arrest of both women for violating the country’s dress rules, and issued an arrest warrant for their attacker on charges of “committing an insulting act and disturbance of order”.
